Explanation & Methodology
The Date Duration Calculator computes the difference between two dates using basic date arithmetic. The primary calculation is:
Difference in Days = End Date − Start Date
Additional options:
- Include End Date: If checked, 1 day is added to the difference.
- Business Days Only: Only weekdays (Monday to Friday) are counted.
- Specific Weekdays: If selected, only the days chosen in the checkboxes will be counted.
Weeks are calculated as days ÷ 7, months as days ÷ 30.44, and years as days ÷ 365.25.
Example Calculation
For example, for a start date of 01/01/2020 and an end date of 01/01/2021:
- If end date is included, the difference is 367 days (2020 being a leap year).
- If counting all days: Approximately 367 days, 52.4 weeks, 12.1 months, and 1.00 year.
- If counting only business days, the total will be lower, based on the number of weekdays in that period.
- If counting only specific weekdays (e.g., only Monday and Wednesday), only those days are summed.
