What is BMI?
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a calculation using your weight and height to determine your health status. While age and sex don't affect the BMI value directly, they provide context for interpreting results.
BMI = Weight (kg) / [Height (m)]²
For example, if a person weighs 70 kg and is 1.75 meters tall, the calculation would be:
BMI = 70 / (1.75 × 1.75) = 22.86
The resulting value is interpreted using the following ranges:
Examples
- If you weigh 70 kg and are 170 cm tall, your BMI is 24.22 (Normal weight).
- If you weigh 95 kg and are 160 cm tall, your BMI is 37.11 (Obesity).
